BACKSTORY

Growing up in Busan, South Korea, Lee Sung Jin was raised by his mother, an Earth magic user, and father, a fire user. Life was pretty rough for Sung Jin because he grew up rather poor. Thankfully, his parents were able to take care of him and themselves using their magical abilities for carpentry, which kept a roof over their heads and food on the table. Some years later, Sung Jin took an interest in singing. After hearing their son's wonderful voice, his parents worked hard to make their son's dream come to fruition. During his early teens, Sung Jin was enrolled in an Idol Program. He went every day after school to prepare for his musical debut.

At sixteen, Sung Jin made his debut with his hit song "Kinda Like A Fire" and immediately became one of the most beloved acts in his country. One day while performing on a televised show along with many other talented Korean solo artists and groups, an unfortunate dragon attack occurred with two dragons arriving on the scene to cause havoc. Fortunately, local Korean sages arrived on-scene along with the unexpected appearance of King Onyx and his usual team consisting of Hellin, James, Orsela, Scylla, Lea, Odessa, and August Starfinder. Not wanting to stand on the sidelines, Sung Jin decided to aid Onyx's team in bringing down one of the dragons. During the battle, the two men locked eyes, but Onyx was preoccupied with minimizing the damage being caused by the dragons and keeping the non-combatants safe. After the dragons were slain and everyone was okay, Sung Jin realized he developed a crush on the current ruler of Mayland.

He was unsure of his feelings because Onyx was not only a half-demon but a male whom he was attracted to whereas he usually only felt attraction for the opposite sex. Sung Jin did his best to avoid media outlets that spoke about King Onyx, and dodged questions from interviewers that asked the young idol his opinion on Mayland's ruler. However, as much as he tried, his feelings for Onyx never went away. A few years later, Sung Jin became an adult. One night while wandering throughout town incognito, he spotted a person sitting on a nearby bench wearing a pink hoodie with their head down in their arms. Sung Jin normally avoided contact with strangers for many reasons, but felt drawn to check in on the individual in pink. Upon approaching the person in pink and getting their attention, the individual looked at him and to Sung Jin's surprise it was King Onyx crying alone.

The reason for his tears was because he lost a close friend named Felie who lost her life while on a mission with her guild. Felie was a sage who was half- Korean and half-Yugoslavian. She wielded the power to summon monstrous bird-like beings. She unfortunately lost her life at the hands of a demon, which made Onyx feel terrible. Sung Jin sat next to Onyx and wrapped his arms around him to console him. While appreciative of the idol's unexpected kindness, the King did feel nervous because not only did he find him very attractive, but the age gap between them was significant. It wasn't uncommon for a demon of Onyx's age to date a mortal of Sung Jin's age, but it was weird for him. Yet he couldn't resist the feeling that he enjoyed being in Sung Jin’s arms.

Accepting their attraction to each other, the two became a couple, but kept their relationship on the low because of Sung Jin's career as an idol in which idols are obligated to remain "single" until fifty years after their career began. Sung Jin would then be properly introduced to Onyx's close circle and he would also aid the heroes in various missions whenever he wasn't busy following his passion as an K-Pop idol. Shortly after their relationship began, Sung Jin enlisted in the army to serve for two years. While sad that his lover wasn’t able to see him for the next two years, Onyx admired his lover's patriotism to his country and looked forward to the day when they could hold each other again. They remained in contact via letters until Sung Jin completed his service then resumed their relationship.

Note: K-Pop means "Korean Pop"

TRIVIA

1. Sung Jin was not inspired by any particular individual, just my desire to have an attractive Korean male character in the FORBIDDEN/Onyxeverse.

2. Originally, I wasn't going to make Sung Jin and King Onyx an item but while working on character stories and ideas, I decided to give the fictional version of myself something I don't have in real life LMAO.

3. Sung Jin was also just going to be an Earth user, but I decided to give him fire-based powers. Finally, I decided to combine the two abilities and thus, lava.

4. Sung Jin can speak Korean, Japanese, English, and a bit of Chinese.

5. Because of his profession, Sung Jin constantly dyes his hair, but his natural hair color is black.

6. Sung Jin's biggest hits include the following "Kinda Like A Fire", "Mirror Mirror", "King of Hearts", "Garden of Eden", "Midnight Sun", and "Trouble Boy".
