Backstory

Steven Cambrian aka: Psyke is the son of Arundel Governor Erickson Cambrian and Puerto Rican actress Mia Ortiz who Erickson married a few months after his divorce from his first wife, Angelina Foster. Steven lived a very privileged lifestyle because he was born to two wealthy parents. Despite having an easy life, Steven was very attracted to the more unconventional things in life even as a child. Showing interest in learning magic at the age of ten, his parents enrolled him in one of the best schools in Blue Jay City where he learned telepathy. School life was relatively normal despite some of his fellow students showing animosity towards him because of his privileged upbringing. However, life remained relatively lax for Steven as he excelled in his studies and even got his first piercings on his thirteenth birthday from his mother, despite his father finding such things as piercings to be crude and a poor representation of oneself. That didn't stop Steven from wanting more piercings in the near future.

One evening while going home from school, a few of Steven's fellow classmates who he had gotten into an argument with earlier caught up to Steven and immediately started attacking him. While Steven was no slouch, four against one, even with his telepathic powers, proved too much for him to handle. Before things got worse, a blue-skinned cambion by the name of Neo Tenfold intervened on Steven's behalf and sent his attackers running for their lives. Thankful for the save, Steven hugged the cambion and the two exchanged numbers.

A few weeks later, Steven alongside his mom and their bodyguard were heading home after an event held for his mother in New York. Steven spotted Neo being attacked by a small group of demon-hating mortals. Immediately, Steven used his telepathic abilities to instill fear in Neo's attackers. Neo was beyond grateful that Steven was in the right place at the right time and thanked his human friend for saving his life. Whenever Steven wasn't around his folks, he often hung out with Neo and a few of his demon buddies. There was a time when humans like Steven outright did not associate with demons, even half-demons like Neo, because demons hunted mortals many millennium ago. Many demons still target humans to this day. Fortunately, most humans are now able to combat such savage demons via magic or other forms of combat. Steven never held any prejudice towards demons and judged them individually not for the actions of their predecessors. Neo gave Steven the nickname "Psyke" and the two practically were a duo and were unstoppable whenever they were together. Psyke was thankful to have such a great friend in Neo and believed they would be best buds forever. Steven was unaware that the dark nature of Neo and his sinister actions were going to catch up to him sooner rather than later, which would change not only Neo’s life forever but Psyke's as well.

One evening while hanging out in Ruin Park, located in the state Rogue Town, in the middle of the night smoking marijuana and listening to heavy metal, a mysterious long brown haired girl dressed in a blue cloak appeared before Psyke, Neo, and Neo's other demon friends. The girl angrily stared directly at Neo before unleashing a magical blast that destroyed Psyke's radio. The girl then swiftly casted a binding blast spell that struck Psyke and the other three demons. Neo dodged the attack by the skin of his teeth. The girl said out loud that she was only there to slay the demon responsible for murdering her brother then pointed directly at Neo. Psyke couldn't believe it at first, but accidentally heard the thoughts of one of Neo's demon friends who confirmed what the girl said was true. Neo did kill her brother a few years ago and she unfortunately witnessed her brother's demise at Neo's hands. Shocked by such a revelation, Psyke prayed that Neo only acted in self-defense. Upon using his telepathic powers on the girl, Psyke discovered that Neo wrongfully killed the man who simply wanted to protect his younger sister from him before running away. Psyke was in utter disbelief that his best friend was in reality a heartless killer. Yet the worst was to be discovered as the girl and Neo engaged in battle. Despite the young woman's best efforts, Neo managed to overwhelm her and successfully knocked her out with one perfectly planted punch to her stomach.

The girl's binding spell wore off on Psyke and the three demons upon her falling unconscious. The three demons immediately took off, leaving Psyke and Neo behind. Despite learning of Neo's misdeeds, Psyke still cared for his friend and pleaded with Neo that they should just leave the girl. Telling his friend that he'll call someone to come help the girl while they get everything sorted out. Neo coldly responded to Psyke, "Shut the fuck up!" Neo's face was in his demonic form. He viciously stared at the unconscious girl's body as he began unzipping his pants. Psyke, confused about Neo's reason for undoing his pants, thought he was going to pee on the girl. Then Neo said aloud, "Now I'm going to finally do to you what I wanted to do all those years ago, pretty girl.” Hearing the malicious tone in his friend's voice, Psyke used his powers to read Neo's mind.

Upon discovering his friend's intentions for the girl.... it made him so fucking sick, SO FUCKING SICK, that Psyke unleashed an uncontrolled psychic blast so strong into Neo's mind that it gave the cambion an instant stroke that shut down all of his bodily functions. Realizing that he just killed his best friend and discovering the taboo thing known as "rape" sent Psyke's mind into a frenzy as he unleashed a psychic echo that was heard throughout a portion of Mayland. The psychic echo caught the attention of several telepaths, one of them being Hellin Strongs who just finished her mission alongside Orsela in the next state over. Psyke then fell unconscious as his brain shut down because he discovered a sin that no pure mortal should ever know existed. Thankfully, Psyke was found by Hellin who took the unconscious boy to Onyx's castle in the Royal Lands where she performed psychic surgery on him with Onyx's assistance. The psychic surgery was a success. Not only did Hellin wipe out Psyke's memories of discovering what rape was, since it was something only cambions and demons knew existed, Hellin recreated events in Psyke's memory. Instead of unintentionally killing his best friend Neo, Hellin made it where Psyke believed he intentionally killed Neo after discovering his friend was an assassin intent on murdering his father. Hellin also placed several mental blocks in Psyke's mind to ensure no amount of tempering would ever reawaken the old memories of Psyke's encounter with Neo. She even went as far as hunting down and killing the other demons that were with Psyke and Neo on that fateful night. Shortly afterward, Psyke was sent to a boarding school in New Jersey under the orders of King Onyx and his parents where he would finish out his school years.

Joining The Newly Reformed Fallen Stars

Psyke finished high school then attended college for two years before dropping out. Meanwhile, Psyke was ordered by King Onyx to join the Hero's Syndicate to keep him on the right path in life and for him to use his talents for good. Psyke went on many missions with various groups of sages. Although the missions were a success, neither Psyke nor the group he was partnered with worked out well. A part of it was because of Psyke's disdain for authority figures, thanks to people like King Onyx and his father. Eventually, Psyke was placed in a group alongside Yara Marrella, Trixie Meringue, and Desmond Mateo and they formed the newly reformed Fallen Stars guild. Despite Psyke's brash personality, he miraculously meshed well with his fellow teammates; especially since Yara actually enjoyed the challenge of putting Psyke in his place. Thankful to finally be among a group of sages he actually liked, Psyke planned on becoming a legend.

TRIVIA

1. When I originally created Psyke, he was going to be a villainous type character.

2. I decided to keep the villainous punk rocker look for Psyke despite deciding to make him a hero.

3. At one point, Psyke was going to be the actual leader of the newly formed Fallen Stars. Upon adopting Yara into the FORBIDDEN universe, I decided that Psyke would only act like the leader while Yara was the true leader.

4. Psyke was originally going to be a full-blooded Maylandian (the name for people born in Mayland), but I decided to make his mother from Puerto Rico. Thus, Steven/Psyke is Maylandian on his father's side and Puerto Rican on his mother's side.

5. Psyke is another telepathic character along with Hellin Strongs, Nara Asamura, King Onyx, Othello Strongs, and Martika Snow.

6. While it was not intentional on my end during the creative process of Psyke's backstory, I noticed upon completion that Psyke's backstory shares many parallels with his fellow team member Yara.
